BOX CARE
Your new timber cake box is made from sustainable Hoop Pine. Timber's natural characteristic is to expand and contract depending on the weather and temperature. Once heated to the recommended temperature for baking your cakes, it will naturally expand marginally; however, once cooled, it should contract back.
Before use, it is important that you season your new cake box. Simply brush a light cooking oil on the inside and outside of your box. Place it in a cool oven and bake for 30 minutes at 150°C, then allow it to cool in the oven. You may notice a pine smell during this seasoning process; this is quite normal as the oils are released from the box.
Remember to always line your cake box with either baking paper or brown paper, and never wash the box. Simply brush out any crumbs or spills after use. These boxes are designed for slow and low baking at a lower temperature of 150°C maximum, for a longer baking period of time. Be sure to bake all your cakes on the middle rack of your oven. In time, your cake box will age gracefully.
BOX LINING INSTRUCTIONS
Measure the perimeter of your timber cake box using one sheet of baking paper.
Cut and fold the baking paper to fit around all four sides of the box internally, with additional folds along the bottom.
This will allow the baking paper to partially cover the base of the box and completely cover the side walls.
Next, measure the base of the box.
Cut and place the baking paper to fit the base, ensuring it overlaps the folded bottom sections from the previously cut and folded side piece.
Your cake box should now be completely lined, preventing any cake mixture from seeping through the baking paper or the box.
After approximately half an hour of baking, or once the top crisps up, cut another sheet of baking paper and cover the top.
Continue baking until fully cooked.
